ChampionChip explained

FAQ on electronic timing

Chipping Explained Q. What is a ChampionChip
A. It is a miniature transponder in a specially designed housing, marked with your unique identification number (Rider's No.). The transponder is a waterproof glass capsule that contains a silicon chip and an energizing coil.

Q. How does the ChampionChip work?
A. The transponder is inactive until moved into a magnetic field, generated by a send antenna in the mat. When the chip enters the magnetic field, the energizing coil produces an electric current to power the chip. The transponder then transmits your riders number to a receive antenna in a mat.

Q. How do I fit the ChampionChip on my bike?
A. You will be provided with a chip together with a fixing bracket. The chip has to be close to the mat so it is fixed on the front wheel spindle behind the quick release lever.

Q. What is the Mat?
A. A 4m wide red mat in which the antenna is embedded will be placed at the Start/Finish and at 3 intermediate check points (2 on the 50K route). When you roll over these both your rider’s number and the time will be automatically recorded. If you don’t pass over the mat you don’t get a time.

Q. Do I get a certificate as in '08?
A. Yes, but this time the system will automatically print your time on it.

Don't forget you only get your deposit back if you return your ChampionChip (If you don’t return it we know who are!)
